In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Niles has initiated a VOLUNTARY RECALL of all iRemote TS and iC2 home theater automation and control systems you may have purchased.
This VOLUNTARY RECALL is due to an important hardware issue, specifically, an issue with the battery pack installed in the iRemote TS and iC2 systems, which has recently come to our attention.
The batteries installed in iRemote TS and iC2 control systems are lithium-ion polymer batteries and are contained in a “soft pack”. These batteries and systems are safe during normal use, However, if HANDLED MISAPPROPRIATELY outside of their protective compartments, or with the battery compartment cover removed, the batteries could rupture and create a potential fire hazard.
While the number of such occurrences has been extremely low, there is a possibility of this happening. This issue can be resolved with a simple hardware update to the iRemote TS and iC2 system. This update will involve adding a protective security cover and a tamper-resistant screw so that the battery pack is no longer accessible. At the same time, we will update the battery pack with a new battery at no charge to you. This change will mean that any future battery replacement will need to be performed by a trained repair technician and will no longer be user-serviceable to assure that the bare battery packs are properly handled.
You should have received information from Niles regarding the process for this battery replacement.
